PAST EVENT - Maison :: 27/05/2007

Name:Maison
Date:27/05/2007
Music Policy:House
DJs:For many of Maison’s most ardent fans their first introduction to Layo & Bushwacka! was at the Showbar. It was one of those parties that became the stuff of legend – possibly one of the busiest nights the Showbar ever had and certainly the most-hyped party of the year for miles around. Hundreds of people queued for the last few remaining tickets, and despite the disappointed looks on the faces of those who weren’t lucky enough to get in it was undoubtedly one of Maison’s finest moments – and that’s saying something.

Since then of course Layo & Bushwacka! have continued their rise to super-stardom and are household names around the globe. From Bournemouth to Brazil, from San Francisco to Sydney – Layo & Bushwacka! rock dance-floors in a way that no one else does.

This party falls on a Bank Holiday weekend so we’ll be partying hard on SUNDAY 27th May. You know to buy tickets early - and if you can’t get a ticket in advance get to the club early.

Open: 9pm - 4am.
Advance tickets (on sale now) £8 (£6 NUS) / Door; £10 (£8 NUS).
Tickets available from The Consortium Store / The Consortium Bar and Club.

This was our first trip down to Maison at the recently (ish) refurbished Consortium!

With the recent opening of Hush and them having a Space Tour night there would always be a fight to get numbers. After reading a few forums on the internet though my good friend Tosh so rightly pointed out that if you want music they play @ space then you are better off going to Maison anyway as both Cliff Lay and Layo and Bushwacker are both current / former Space residents also....!

As we got in upstairs the funky disco bootleggy beats were being provided by none other than Tosh. With the blink of an eye he had morphed into Lee7seven who was playing some equally awesome tunes. Its good to see these guys are getting the recognition they deserve!

After a few drinks we skulked downstairs to find a somewhat harder and dirtier tinge to the air! We caught the end of Cliff's set which was awesome. I'd try and name some tracks, but 1/ I was a little hammered by this point 2/ most of the tunes played probably won't be out till about 2010 anyway so I won't bother trying!

After Cliff came Sir Layo and Mr Bushwacker. As I rememeber they seemed to start off quite slowly and work the crowd into a Frenzy of wobbling arms and shaky legs. The slow start was not unintentional - theres no point in burning yourself out at the beginning of a 4 hour set! Luckily the music just kept getting dirtier, noisier, faster and heavier! Just how we like it.

All in all a great night, which although wasn't quite their 2003 night which legends were made of was still one of the best nights I've ahd out in a while :o)
